• New Image Youth Center (NIYC) proudly announces the launch of “There is Good in My Hood.” This book tells the story of a young man who found the war and embracing hands in the NIYC and also encourages children from all over the world to find the good in their hood. Between the summers of 2008 and 2010, the staff of NIYC and the students began to talk about the Parramore Community and what it had to offer. Their goal was to get the youth to talk about their community and not be afraid or embarrassed to let others know where they were from. Due to the high crime rate and poverty level, it was more common to receive negative feedback when others found out the location of NIYC. The staff were determined to represent the Parramore area and highlight all of the good in the neighborhood. During their time together, the youth would sit down to discuss and write things about the Parramore Community, and the phrase “in my hood” was mentioned, which inspired the idea for the book.
